This from E-town [ http://www.etownraceway.com ] website: "It has been brought to our attention that racers have been removing their safety equipment, such as neck collars, helmets, gloves, etc., before they exit the racing surface onto the return road. These actions are strictly prohibited and unacceptable. As per the NJ State Police and NHRA Racing Regulations, all safety equipment cannot be removed until the vehicle is stopped or slowed on the return road. Track officials will be observing and doing random checks and if an individual is caught breaking these rules, they will be subjected to disqualification and further penalties. This is a zero tolerance rule and will be strictly enforced. There are no exceptions to this rule!!!! For extra safety precautions, there will be fire extinguishers located on some of the telephone poles on the return road. -Raceway Park Management"This should apply to all racers at any dragstrip! I'm happy to stay that I've always folllowed theser rules. I never unbuckled or taken off my helmet until I'm on the return road. My crash is proof that anything can happen at the track, even after the run going down the shutdown area. I TIVO'ed the NHRA event this past weekend and watched it last night. Well one of the passes by a PRO STOCK racer was very similar to my crash. He crossed the finish line, won his race, off the gas and all of the sudden his car makes a left turn for the wall. Well he was obviously going allot faster than I was, so he hits the wall hard, the parachute comes out and slows him down. But then the car catches on fire. A big fire and the driver walks away with just a slight burn on his left arm. Thankfully, mine didn't catch fire. And again, I too walked away due to the safety stuff in the car. Anyway, just saying that everyone must follow all saftey requirements and procedures at any track/dragstrip. More and more guys are running faster and faster with their big turbo Z cars. Please be smart and do all of the necessary safety stuff.
